"What I love about being Irish, is that I get to get upset when people culturally appropriate Irish things like St. Patrick Day. I love reading about Irish history, and I love getting mad about it, because everyone thinks that being Irish is just a fun thing, but it's actually a huge history of repression. So check your privilege."
"I am of Latino heritage: 50% Mexican and 50% Puerto Rican. I love the family unity. I really love just coming together. When its a big celebration, or even a small one, a lot of family members will just come together, and we laugh and have a good time. It really shows that family is there when you were born, and they'll always be there until you die."
"I am Belgian. Um... we don't really celebrate it much, but we have Belgian-American Days back home, and so there's lots of meat and potatoes, because that's what we love. And Rolly Bowly... And Belgium waffles, but those aren't actually Belgian, they're just American waffles."
"I am 50% Chinese, and then Irish, German, Danish, and a little Scandinavian. I love being a minority in a way, because it just makes me different. A lot of people, of course, come with the Chinese jokes, and some people can't really handle that, like my brother, but I think they're hilarious, as long as they aren't taken too harshly. I think everything that can make someone different is awesome, and I love being Irish and Chinese, because nobody thinks thats possible, BUT it is!"
"I am Irish and African American, and I love that because it's unique. The African heritage focuses a lot on community, and that's what I love so dearly. The Irish tradition focuses a lot on honor. I love to honor my ancestors. I also love it, because I was raised mostly by my Irish family, and they have this incredible joy, this joy that goes beyond all circumstances."
"I am 100% Ethiopian. Born and raised there. What I love about being Ethiopian is that we are very social people. Everything that we do is based on being around other people. You can start with our coffee ceremony, with these teeny tiny, well we call them cini, but I guess you can call them glasses. There are multiple rounds, and you sit around and tell each other about your days. Usually the ladies in the neighborhood get together and they do this, and I think it is really cute. They would usually send the little kids to go to people's doors saying, 'Come have coffee,' and you'd see kids running around laughing. It was really sweet."
"I am Swedish, Czech, and maybe a little bit Norwegian. I love the food and the celebration. We get together for Karl Oskar Days up in Northern Minnesota. It has a ton of different things celebrating Swedish heritage. Its a wonderful time to get together and learn about the past. My Grandma was 100% Swedish, and she gave us a majority of our celebrations."
"I am 25% German, 25% Czechoslovakian, 12.5% Irish, 12.5% Socttish, and the rest, I'm not quite sure. I'm a big fan or beer and fine wines and food, and because of this, when we get together for family reunions, we have different families, who maybe be affiliated more with one culture, bringing this food or beverage to the party to indulge, moderately. Its a very enjoyable time. Discussions are had. History is learned."
"I am many things, but I mostly identify with my Hispanic side, Peruvian and Mexican. I like the food. The food of the Hispanic culture is very diverse, like the Ceviche in Mexico is different from the Ceviche in Peru, but one of the things we bond over, no matter where you are from is food! Everybody loves food, because you bring the rich aromas of flavor when you sit down to a meal and you just have a good time. And so I love the community feel, and bonding through food."
"Something that I love about being Puerto Rican is that the background includes a baseball and Spanish speaking heritage, and thats kind of cool."
